Boarding
The Herschel Boarding House is home away from home for approximately
twenty-eight boarders from Grades 8 to 12. This is a weekly boarding
facility: boarders leave after their final school activity on a Friday
and return either on Sunday evening or on Monday morning. The number of
boarders is kept small in order to maintain a family atmosphere of
warmth and personal attention.
Boarders are given ample opportunity for diligent study. Prep is done in the very wellequipped library or project room, which is in the main house. The excellent academic standards that have been achieved in recent years can be attributed to a healthy work ethic. Boarders also participate in a large variety of school activities (sporting and cultural), as well as contributing to the life of the school in numerous ways.
Being resident at Herschel means boarders have easy access to the many wonderful school facilities which include the Resource Centre (housing the Baxter Library and the Computer Room), the Theatre, the Art Room, the Music practice rooms and the Sports Centre. The swimming pool becomes especially popular after prep on a hot summer's evening.
Life as a boarder would not be complete without weekly visits to Cavendish Square and local health clubs. And there is provision for special outings in the evenings, to attend concerts, birthday parties and sporting events.
A professional catering team provides nutritious meals and menus are varied and balanced.
Boarding is an integral part of life at Herschel: the boarders bring energy, fun and a strong sense of family into the system, and friends made in the house are often friends forever. The Boarding House is a busy and vibrant place where the girls are encouraged to care for one another and their environment in a responsible and considerate manner.
