Enrichment
Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory
During the last week of the third term, the whole school, from Pre-Preparatory to Preparatory, departs from the normal curriculum and participates in various activities, which are stimulating and enriching. These include bringing in specialists to speak, perform or teach, taking classes on unusual outings, holding an International Food Fair, and holding a Grade 7 Soirée. There is always a focus on environmental ducation and community outreach activities. The Grade 6 and 7 girls participate in Panorama Day which involves a wide range of craft workshops and other activities such as hip hop, yoga and self defence classes which would not normally fall into the classroom curriculum but which are fascinating and enriching.
In addition, The Herschel Pre-Preparatory has been at the forefront of providing a number of conferences for both teachers and parents during the last few years. One teacher summed it up perfectly as being "Chicken Soup for the Teachers' Soul." It provides the opportunity to network with colleagues and parents and to learn from the stimulating discussions presented by guest speakers.

The Enrichment Programme is designed to take place over a week. During this time Grades 8,9,10 and 11 pursue a programme that moves away from subjects and the formal curriculum. By inviting speakers and participating in excursions and seminars, a wider awareness of the world is created. The activities are designed to instill independent and collaborative learning, critical thinking and the development of higher thinking skills, incorporating analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
A suitable umbrella theme is chosen each year and the teachers collaborate to devise a programme suitable for the development within the different grades. The programme can include a night away and this gives the girls an opportunity to bond as a grade and to develop new relationships. The benefit of this programme is that the teachers and pupils learn together and discover different aspects of each other's personalities.
