Pastoral
The Pastoral aspect of our ethos aims to educate the whole person and build the emotional intelligence so vital for academic learning. It deals with the well-being of the girls by establishing boundaries, exploring attitudes and reinforcing values. The goal is to prepare the girls for a life in which they will be good citizens, make a contribution and take responsibility for their decisions. We want them to become leaders who are confident, resilient and mindful of their socal responsibilities. They must have good communication skills, co-operate, resolve conflict and uphold their values.

There is a well-monitored programme of support in place. Every teacher is responsible for pastoral care. There are teams that support the pupils - peer groups, tutor systems, house systems, academic support programmes, careers guidance, counselling and specal needs support services.

We encourage our girls to be happy and motivated so that they can achieve their personal best in the areas they choose. There is a Code of Conduct that outlines the way we behave at Herschel, as well as our rights and responsibilities.

Overall we treat the girls as individuals, value them for their unique skills and talents, challenge them to explore and grow, nurture their connectedness and support them. The school climate reflects our values and vision.
