Jerome Damon, the only South African referee who will be in action at the World Cup, inspired an entire school full of young girls when he visited Herschel Preparatory this week. Damon told the girls his story: although he did not excel at sport, he accepted an invitation to be the referee when his friends played soccer in the park. He dared to dream big, acted on his dream and while today casual players still gather in the park to kick a soccer ball, Damon has become a World Cup referee. He spent time with the girls after his presentation, chatting to them and signing autographs.
