The Grade Three girls paid a visit to SARDA on 20 May. They arrived in time to watch a riding lesson and had great fun finding the horses they had been learning about and putting a name to each one. The riders are all disabled young people and the girls were able to take note of how much they all enjoyed their lessons. Each horse was led by a volunteer and where necessary, in order to secure the safety of the rider, there were sometimes volunteers on either side of a horse too.The girls later visited the stables where they were able to feed the horses some of the apples and carrots they had brought with them. Hobbit, a Falabella, and the SARDA mascot, was very accommodating and allowed the girls to hug and pat him while he enjoyed his treats. The day was glorious with sunshine and clear skies and the girls loved climbing on fences and straddling the make-believe horse made out of a large drum. They were also shown the covered indoor arena with a special dust-free surface and ramp which can be used in inclement weather, thus making it possible for the riders not to miss lessons which they look forward to so much. The parents who assisted with transport were able to join us and so everybody enjoyed the morning out in the fresh air.
