Last Friday the school collected a total of 9613 cans for Primrose Park Primary. Girls to be especially commended for making a huge effort are Caryn Biebuyck (1065) and Zarreen Desai (486) - and that their classes did not win the inter-class competition attests to the fact that the rest of their classmates sadly made too little effort. Other girls who collected over 100 cans on their own were: Carla van der Berg, Catherine Diemont, Lucca du Preez, Alex Faure, Hanna Dennis, Chloe Oaker, Georgia Evans, Caitlin Maharaj and Cara van Niekerk. Special mention must be given to Ella Parker-Forsyth in Grade R who brought 487 cans even though the Pre-Preps had not been included in the competition. Well done to all these pupils! The winning class was Grade 5A with 2320 cans, Grade 7alpha was second with 2102 cans and Grade 5 alpha 3rd with 1280 cans. Congratulations! The teamwork in the two Grade 5 classes is to be commended.
On Friday we were visited by 4 girls and two teachers from Primrose Primary for a formal hand-over of our cans to them. They were overjoyed at the impetus this was going to give to their own can collection and also the extra much-needed funds it will generate for this school from Manenberg.
Something that made me a little sad was the number of girls who did not bring even 1 can despite having been told about the challenge in the second last week of last term and having the whole holidays to collect cans from family, friends and relatives. We are going to repeat this challenge in Term 4. If every girl between now and then collects just 30 cans each, we can collect more than 10 000 cans! Please support this recycling / outreach challenge!
