The Herschel Chorale was placed first in the Chamber Choir section (19 years and under) of the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod.
The Tygerberg International Eisteddfod hosts one of the biggest choir competitions in the country. This year a total of 95 choirs took part; choirs from all age groups including an open section for adult choirs. Choirs are adjudicated by a panel of 5 experienced musicians and choral directors. The first round of the Eisteddfod took place over two weeks in May. The 11 choirs that received 90% and higher were selected to perform in the final round which took the form of a Gala Concert in Stellenbosch two months later.
At the Gala Concert on 2 September, the Herschel Chorale achieved an average mark of 92%. The adjudicators commented that the choir gave a beautiful, convincing performance of a programme that was technically advanced and well-constructed, affording the choir the chance to display various musical styles. They commented on the choir’s meticulous phrasing, good diction and their beautiful, well focused and resonant sound.
