Support & Counselling - Foundation Phase
Remedial and Learning Support Team
There is an established multi-disciplinary Remedial Support Department, headed by a clinical remedial teacher, attached to the Preparatory School.
In addition, the Remedial Support Team includes a group of outside therapists who practise at school on a part-time basis. These professionals include a speech and language therapist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and facilitators.
Speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and facilitation are offered to individual girls during the course of the school day for a prescribed fee, payable by the parents.
The School Counsellor also serves as an active participant in this team.
Remedial Support
Specific assessments take place in order to investigate the learning styles of specific girls. Individual girls who need specialised learning support are assisted in their learning by one of two clinical remedial teachers. Special small group class-based lessons also take place. Programmes include the development of phonics, reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills.
Speech and Language Therapy
The speech and language therapist offers assessment and therapy for girls who are experiencing difficulties with articulation and non-fluent speech. In addition, she assists girls with auditory skills, phonological awareness training and the development of expressive and receptive language.
Physiotherapy
The physiotherapists assist individual girls in the development and reinforcement of correct posture, motor planning, co-ordination and stamina.
Occupational Therapists
The occupational therapists help the girls to develop visual perceptual skills, motor planning ability and improve fine and gross motor development and handwriting skills.
Facilitation
The facilitators work in assisting individual girls within the classroom to develop holistic learning.
