Learning to make a difference

Boarding is an integral part of life at Herschel: the thirty weekly boarders bring energy, fun and a strong sense of family into the system, and friends made in the house are often friends forever.  Arderne House is a busy and vibrant place where the boarders are encouraged to care for one another and their environment in a responsible and considerate manner.

Being resident on campus means boarders have easy access to the many wonderful school facilities – the swimming pool becomes especially popular after prep on a hot summer’s evening. Boarders are given ample opportunity for diligent study during set “prep” time but, being a small group of girls living under one roof, there are as many opportunities for fun and games, braais on the school lawn or pizza nights out.  Girls are allowed to visit Cavendish Square, the mall close to Herschel, and go for runs in the vicinity.

This all happens under the kind but watchful eyes of the House Mother and Student Housemistress. A professional catering team provides nutritious meals and snacks are always available.

Boarders may arrive on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings and have to vacate the house by Fridays at 16:30.  No boarders may stay in Arderne over weekends.
