ICT
Herschel offers state-of-the-art ICT (Information and Communication
Technology) facilities that enable the pupils and staff to maximise
their learning experience through the incorporation of ICT into
curriculum areas. Pupils and teachers have access to a range of hardware,
from desktop and laptop computers to digital cameras, scanners and
printers. There are computer laboratories and computers in the
Library/Resource Centre for work and research.
In terms of software, Herschel holds licenses for many of the top productivity and educational packages. Besides the internal network, Herschel is linked to the Internet via permanent ADSL connections. Herschel subscribes to many online educational sites to assist pupils and staff to conduct research.
ICDL
Herschel is a registered training and testing centre for the ICDL (International Computer Driving License) Organisation. As such, pupils take ICT lessons up to and including Grade 9, during which time they sit for the formal ICDL examinations. Once passed, pupils are awarded the internationally recognised ICDL certification.
Computer Studies
Pupils wishing to take Computer Studies as a Senior Certificate Subject receive tuition with the SACS pupils. Staff also receive regular training with a focus on upgrading skills, and the integration of ICT into their teaching subject.
