Our Councillors

Dear members of the Herschel community,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the 2024 Council Members. The Council is the body that carries the ultimate responsibility for the governance of Herschel. We are responsible for appointing the Head of School and the Business Manager and providing input into appointing other senior positions. We are accountable for the financial well-being of the school, which includes the significant responsibility of determining the level of school fees needed to provide the services and resources that are considered appropriate for a school. We are responsible for the formulation and adoption of policy, but leave the day-to-day delivery of education to our highly qualified management team and staff.

Our Council Members are skilled in many different facets that support the strategy and operations of the school. In addition to attending quarterly council meetings, members of council participate in various Council sub-committees. These include Finance, Human Resources, Transformation, Equity and Belonging, Education and IT, Awards and Marketing committees.

Kind regards

School Song

We are assembled here in love,
We are united, we care for one another.
The greatest lesson of all is the one
That teaches us to live together, together.

Refrain:
Everyone’s a spark and in the night
Together we make a light, a fire burning bright
Ad Dei Gloriam; Inkosi mayibongwe:
To the glory of our God: this is what we believe.

In times of trouble we support
Our fellows; we are taught to be there for our friends.
And all around us, there will be
That special unity, that binds us all together.

If we come back after many years,
We will think fondly of the things that we remember,
And the friends that we made then,
These will be friends forever, forever.
