Senior Debating team win Western Cape Schools Debating competition

The Senior Debating team, consisting of Anna von Willingh, Anathi Mngxekeza, Amaarah Ebrahim, Michaela Todd and Semane Reddy-Mbewu, won the Western Cape Schools Debating competition over the long weekend. Trials to progress through to this tournament occurred fortnightly throughout the year and the outcome was determined by nine debates over two consecutive weekends. The Senior team made it through to the quarter-finals, where they beat Bergvliet; they went on to triumph over Reddam House Constantia in the semi-final and then beat DF Malan in the final. We are very proud of the hours, training and teamwork displayed by these brilliant girls!

The junior team narrowly missed out on the quarter final by one position. We congratulate Haadiyah Ebrahim, Epiphany Stransham-Ford, Kate Forest, Tallulah Baird, Grace North and Lulama Lingela on their efforts and progress.

Semane Reddy-Mbewu, Anna von Willingh and Haadiyah Ebrahim were also selected as individuals to potentially represent the Western Cape regional team.

School Song

We are assembled here in love,
We are united, we care for one another.
The greatest lesson of all is the one
That teaches us to live together, together.

Refrain:
Everyone’s a spark and in the night
Together we make a light, a fire burning bright
Ad Dei Gloriam; Inkosi mayibongwe:
To the glory of our God: this is what we believe.

In times of trouble we support
Our fellows; we are taught to be there for our friends.
And all around us, there will be
That special unity, that binds us all together.

If we come back after many years,
We will think fondly of the things that we remember,
And the friends that we made then,
These will be friends forever, forever.
