Past and present students and staff came together last Friday to celebrate Herschel’s 97th birthday!
At the Senior School, a special assembly was held with the theme “Remembering the past…..Celebrating the future”. Our special guest speaker was Old Herschelian Brendalyn Stempel, who was awarded the 2019 Caroline Herschel Award – an award that was launched to acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary impact that Old Herschelians have made in South Africa and the world beyond. The assembly was followed by the special Founder’s Day service at St Saviour’s Church.
And no Founder’s Day would be complete without an abundance of cupcakes, the traditional running-through-the-arch of all new students and staff, and the singing of our school song standing arm in arm around our fountain.
The Old Herschelians also enjoyed catching up with classmates from the past at the annual OH Founder’s Day Luncheon held in the Mary Jagger Hall.
At our Prep School, the celebrations were also in full swing! The Grade 4s took us down memory lane and gave us a brief introduction to the history of Herschel. It all ended with the ceremonious cutting of the cake which was enjoyed by staff, parents and students.
Happy Founder’s Day Herschel!
